Dear Parents of Exeter Youth Baseball and Softball,

Our plan as a league since this quarantine started back in March was to patiently wait and get playing as soon as we were permitted to do so. Over the last few weeks we have had many discussions about playing an amended season with whatever of the spring and early summer was available. With the recent news of the stay at home order being extended for our area until June 4th that hope has now diminished. Organized sports cannot begin until the area is in green phase and that might take until July potentially. As many leagues around the area have cancelled their seasons over the last few weeks, we were holding out hope that somehow, we would be able to get to play some baseball and softball. At this point we have no choice but to cancel the spring baseball and softball seasons.

The overwhelming concern of the board over the last few weeks has been how we can continue to fund our league facing the issue of potentially having to refund all of the registration fees. There are some things we would like you to know about your league that many people are not aware of. EYBS owns 35 acres of land at the complex. We have a mortgage payment each month of $2,054.00. We have property taxes on this land just as any landowner in the township. Due to the size of the property we have to employ a groundskeeper to maintain the property (even when we are quarantined). A lot of other expenses come into play as well such as electricity, building maintenance and numerous other items. Most youth organizations either utilize free use of school property or township properties for their seasons and therefore do not have these concerns. We take pride in having our very own top-notch facility for our baseball and softball players but with that comes the expenses other organizations do not need to consider. With the cancellation of the season we are also missing out on our very successful Corbi fundraiser that annually nets between $25,000 to 28,000 dollars as well as our concessions revenue.

We will be offering three options for handling of registration fees.  We will be offering a refund minus all fees incurred to the league for online payments or costs of checks and return mail. We will also be offering a credit of your registration towards fall baseball or softball or towards the 2021 season. Finally, we will also have the option available for you to donate your registration back to the league in an effort to help the league cover the costs needed to get through to the 2021 seasons and get back on track.  We have never charged fees over what is needed to operate in a fiscal year and although we will not have the costs of uniforms and some other items with this cancellation the biggest priority is being able to maintain payments on our mortgage of the property.
